FAQ's

What is Medical Grade skincare?

Medical Grade Skincare is often highly recommended by both Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons for its effectiveness and scientifically-backed formulations. These products are designed to address various skin concerns and are typically formulated with higher concentrations of active ingredients, making them a preferred choice for many individuals seeking professional skincare solutions.

What is Face Reality and what can I expect?

1. Initial Consultation

  1. Assessment: We will begin by analyzing your skin and discussing your acne history, lifestyle, skincare routine, diet, and any medications you might be taking.
  2. Custom Treatment Plan: Based on this assessment, I will create a personalized treatment plan designed to address your specific type of acne.

2. Personalized Skincare Routine

  1. Home Care Products: One of the cornerstones of Face Reality's approach is its customized home-care products. These are typically a combination of cleansers, toners, serums, and moisturizers formulated to reduce inflammation, fight bacteria, and regulate oil production.
  2. Gradual Introduction: You might start with gentler products and slowly increase the intensity as your skin adjusts to avoid irritation.

3. In-Office Treatments

  1. Facials and Extractions: Professional facials are designed to exfoliate the skin and remove clogged pores. They may include extractions of blackheads and whiteheads, which can help reduce breakouts.
  2. LED Light Therapy: The use of  light therapy to reduce acne-causing bacteria and inflammation.
  3. Chemical Peels: Mild peels (often with ingredients like salicylic acid or glycolic acid) can help to speed up skin turnover and reduce clogged pores.
  4. Frequency: You might need to visit the clinic every 2-4 weeks for treatments, especially early on.

4. Diet and Lifestyle Advice

  1. Dietary Recommendations: Diet can play a significant role in acne. I often recommend reducing or eliminating dairy, high-glycemic foods, or inflammatory foods like sugar.
  2. Lifestyle Modifications: I may also suggest changes in habits that could help reduce acne triggers, such as getting enough sleep, managing stress, and avoiding harsh skincare products or makeup.

5. Gradual Improvement and Patience

  1. Consistency Is Key: One of the most important things to understand is that acne treatments take time. While you might see some improvement within the first few weeks, it can take 3-6 months for significant changes to occur.
  2. Breakouts Before Improvement: Some people experience a “purging” phase at the beginning, where acne temporarily worsens as the skin adjusts to the new products or treatments. This is normal but can be frustrating.

6. Results

  1. Clearer Skin Over Time: With consistent treatment, many people see a reduction in acne breakouts, fewer blackheads, and clearer, smoother skin.
  2. Maintenance: Once your acne is under control, you may still need occasional touch-up treatments and to follow a maintenance skincare routine to keep your skin clear.

7. Side Effects

  1. Initial Irritation: When starting the regimen, some people experience dryness, redness, or peeling as their skin adjusts to the new products.
  2. Breakouts: As mentioned, initial purging can happen as your skin clears out clogged pores.
  3. Sensitivity: Some treatments or products may cause sensitivity, so it's important to follow your esthetician’s advice carefully.

What can I expect after my HydraFacial treatment?

Skin appearance

Your skin may look brighter and feel softer and more supple. You might also experience slight redness or tightness that should fade within a few hours.

Downtime

You can usually resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. HydraFacials are non-surgical and don't require downtime.

Aftercare

Avoid using harsh skincare products, cleansers, toners, or masks for several days after the treatment. You can use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser that's right for your skin type. You should also avoid scrubs and exfoliating products.

What is a VI Peel?

A VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that improves the appearance of skin by removing the top layer of skin cells:

What it does

A VI Peel exfoliates the skin, stimulates collagen production, and reveals smoother, brighter skin.

What it's used for

A VI Peel can help with signs of aging, sun damage, acne, and oily skin. It can also reduce or eliminate age spots, freckles, and hyper-pigmentation.

Where it can be used

A VI Peel can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, and back, and it's the only chemical peel that's safe for the under-eye area.

Ingredients

A VI Peel contains a blend of ingredients, including trichloroacetic acid (TCA), phenol, salicylic acid, vitamin C, and tretinoin.

Procedure

The procedure starts with a gentle cleanser, followed by 6-8 passes of the peel applied by an esthetician. The treatment takes about 15-20 minutes.

Aftercare

After the peel, your skin may look slightly tan to red, feel tighter, and peel around the mouth area. You should limit sun exposure and peeling should be complete by day six or seven.

Before getting a VI Peel, you should stop using Accutane six months in advance, avoid retinol and other products with active ingredients 72 hours before, and minimize sun exposure and heat on your face before your appointment.
